We got our papers back last night in Preservation class. I was curious to see which, if any, of the minor errors and omissions that I found would turn up in her notes. None of them, it turns out. She, however, caught a screamingly obvious "oops" that I determined to correct in the final version I submit for the other class. Her question was, "When did the mechanization of parchment production start?" I think I laughed out loud when I saw that one, just because I was so surprised that I hadn't addressed the question. Upeon further reflection, however, I realized that in all my research I never once saw any reference to when that happened. There was an article that oh-by-the-way mentioned which steps are done by machine now, and I threw that in, or she might never have mentioned it. And you know what? I STILL can't find anything about it. When I Google it, I find all sorts of other interesting intersections of "mechanization" and "parchment" but nothing that addresses the specific question. And all the websites that have pics of people making parchment now are doing it the old way, with wooden beams and sharp curved knives. And she caught me on a chemistry detail, when I mistakenly said the skin after processing was "neutral pH" instead of calling it buffered. Which means I missed that question on the final exam, too. Oops. Oh, but she was VERY pleased with the "depth of research" ie-- two and a half pages of works cited. Heh.

Still, I am totally not complaining. I am VERY happy with the grade I received, and have changed the line about buffering in the last paper, which will be turned in Thurs night. Now to see how I did on the final exam.... oh, yeah, and take the last final. I am SO not looking forward to that. In fact, I should go on and start getting caught up on the readings, which are sadly behind. Oops. Otherwise, I'm just hanging out today. Listening to Tuneless Boy strumming his guitar. Does it get any better than this?
