From a preliminary review of the HR web site info, it appears that Extended Short Term Disability has no more restrictions than the regular short term disability (known on the web page as "STD", which just gives me flashbacks to my more... er... interesting youth) and that would be good news. The UNC HR woman told me that "long term disability" (aka LTD) meant that I couldn't draw it if I was going to school or doing any work, even part time. (Myabe that's why it's "LTD." Sorry.) What she didn't mention was the possibility of extended short term disability (known hereinafter as XSTD) at all.

The XSTD will deduct the amount of pay I'm getting from working at CAM, which is okay by me. It'll be so much more than I was thinking I'd get that I'll be dancing all the way to the bank. Yeah, it's still half of what I was making when I was working, but that's way better than living on student loans, which is two thirds of what I've been living on the last year. That's starting to cut into little things like food. I was seeing lots of beans and rice, and ramen noodles, in my future. Budget. That's what I NEED to see in my future. Get a grip on that stuff, yes indeed.

The opening day parade was fun. I am told that we, the dancing letters ( Nia, the B's and me) were quite the hit. Every time we'd get a pause, we'd do this little side-step bomp! thing (known in aerobics dance, at least, as a "grapevine" step) and sometimes we'd rearrange ourselves so that instead of "READ" we said "DEAR" or "DARE." The first time we tried this highly technical maneuver we wound up saying "DAER" or some such till we got it figured out. We got lots of laughs and plenty of applause, though. And we got to shake it on Clark Street, which not everyone can say they've done. I mean, lots of people shake it on Hillsborough St, but on Clark? Not so much. Heh. And lord, we got our photos taken so many times, and lots of people put us on video. Back in the dark ages, we could have said we were "taped" or "filmed" but I guess now we have to say the whole damn phrase, which doesn't seem right somehow, in this modern age of slang and speeded-up-ness. Maybe I could just say we were immortalized. Yeah, that's it.

Well, guys, gotta go do some research and write a paper. Back to my youth! Too bad it's not the fun part...
