I just spent a mind-boggling amount of money for an ergonomic desk chair. (Thanks to a gift from my parents, I can afford to buy it.) I've had this kind of chair in an office once and it was wonderful, plus there is a 90-day guarantee on the comfort, so if I should decide it isn't right they'll either refund or exchange it for me. I kinda had a hard time deciding to buy it; on the one hand I really wanted to, and once I sat down I was kind of a goner. Still, it was a lot of money. Then I did some math: cost of chair divided by years of warranty. If the cheap chair I was looking at lasted 2 years, which pretty much fits my experience, the cost is the same per year. Plus, if it actually helps prevent migraines and makes my back hurt less, that's all pure benefit after the per-year analysis.

I also picked up a really cool footstool, because even really good chairs don't get short enough for people my height. This is a really elegant design, and I got it for way less than listed on this page. Heh.

So, I'm at least theoretically on the way to a more ergonomically correct working environment. I sure hope it helps.

It's been coolish all day, rainy this afternoon. I stopped at the grocery store on the way home from the chair store, and the lovely peppers just called to me.... chili.... chili.... chili... so I succumbed. Anaheims, poblano, serrano, jalapeno....they were all so pretty, I got some of each. (Gee, I'm easy today...) Now there is a glorious pot of chili simmering on the stove, making the house smell lovely. Yummmmm.

So, [livejournal.com profile] thatursula came and got the computer desk this evening, and carried the new chair upstairs for me. I swear, I've got to start working out, or something. How come she could hoist that chair and carry it upstairs without batting an eyelash? Damn.

And since the computer desk was gone, and I wanted to get online, I set up the computer on a couple of TV trays, and it's working depressingly well. I say "depressingly" because I ordered a new desk online today, and now that I have a good chair that is adjusted right for me, I realize that even the new desk, which is several inches lower than the old desk, is going to be too high. I guess I'll have to get someone to cut the legs down for me. Why not? It's a table, basically, and doesn't have any drawers or anything that would be put out of commission by being lowered three inches. It's going to look surpassingly silly, with the top surface being 26" above the floor, but who cares? It's my table, so there. Now to find someone with a good saw.
