z, I’m such an internet junkie. Of course, there is NOTHING to do at the ‘rent’s house. I didn’t think to bring anything to work on, like embroidery. I’ve tried to bring painting up here before and that didn’t work; for some reason I get all twitchy when there are people who are likely to (a) bump into the table (b) watch over my shoulder or (c) thump me on said shoulder to show approval. If I’d known everybody was going to sleep for 6 hours every day (plus regular sleep at night) I might have brought something. As it is, I’ve about had my fill of reading, if you can believe that.
I went to the cool downtown coffee shop/internet café, but they closed today at 2 for unspecified reasons—I’m guessing lack of staff, being as it’s the holidays and all. It was busy when I was in there the other day, so probably not lack of business. In desperation, I started driving around—flashbacks to the old days when that was a valid way to spend time, I guess, but mostly sheer I-can’t-sit-there-another-minute desperation. I saw a neat store I’ve never noticed before—music, video, and books. Aha! I asked there if there was an internet café place to use wireless, and I learned that there is now a Starbucks here in Richmond. Sadly, they don’t have wireless yet, but the woman at the register said that if I sit by the window, I could get the signal from the hotel next door. “The students do it all the time,” she said. There’s something weird, though—I can connect but I can’t get anything. I’m getting a strange message and no web. Sigh. I decided to sit here and sip my coffee and type, though, just for someplace different to be.
A few days ago, Mother asked me to take her and Daddy to church tomorrow, and I can do that. I figure I’ll drop them off and go to the downtown shop. No idea where we’ll go for lunch after that; it’d be kinda cool if they met some of their friends for lunch. I made the meatloaf today, and a fruit salad with yogurt-and-cinnamon dressing. Exotic stuff, I tell you.
Later, gators.
