If Bob, who earns $12 an hour and can paint a house in one day, drives at 60 miles per hour in a straight line away from George, who earns $9 an hour and can paint two houses in three days and is driving at 45 miles per hour in a straight line away from Bob, it is only fair that Sam reaches St Louis before either of them.

First, one must define our assumptions. I will have to assume that this is a two dimentional problem, and based on the term "drive" then I think I am safe. If Bob, George, or Sam have a car that can fly, or have enough drugs to make them think their car can fly, then my first assumption will break down.

Secondly, this seems to be a math problem. As such, the use of the term "fair" is inappropriate - as there is no "fair" in math. Math is pretty much unfair, and that's the way it is. Often it ventures into realms that are considered "cruel and unusal", even by the measure of our now 7 person Suprieme Court. As such, I shal ignore the word "fair".

Next, I will point out that George does 2/3 of the work that Bob can do, but makes 3/4 as much. The remaining 1/12 is in fact, unfair (there's that nasty "fair" again), and Bob should get a raise to compensate him. However, it seems they are both driving right now, and I don't know any painters who can paint a house and drive a car at the same time, so their salaries are only relevant to the current price of Gas, which again, is "unfair".

Furthermore, we find that they are driving away from each other, perhaps due to some spat of earnings inequalities, but none the less, away from each other. The question that arises goes as such; are the speeds noted what they are doing vs. a stationary reference frame, or are those speeds relative to each other. If that's the second option is the case, then modern physics are out the window and Sam can teleport Star Treck Style into St. Louis all day long. Being as he (Sam) is not previously mentioned, we will assume that he has appeared from thin air, and hence, physics is out the window.

With Physics taking a bender in the bar district, there is no further point to discussing any of this, so I will be on Fraklin Street getting a pint of something strong with a red headed dodo bird and a very nice T-Rex wearing a straw hat. Good day.
