I had a good birthday. Well, some of it wasn't birthday related but was pleasant nonetheless. I enjoyed the trip to the State Archives rather more than I expected to, and started reconsidering that possibility all over again. The thing that slowed me down the most on that was hearing how little archivists get paid. Holy cow! It's not just how little I'd be paid on the job, either; that has a direct effect on how much I'd get for retirement. While I could probably squeak by on the paycheck, the fraction of that amount that would be a retirement paycheck would leave me bagging groceries at the local grocery, and believe me, that is what I'm trying to avoid. Oh, wait-- maybe "archivist" is one of those jobs I could do on a walker. Heh. I'm counting on "librarian" being another one.

I went to Livia's for dinner after visiting the archives, and she produced a delicious dinner as usual. She enjoys cooking enough that she's willing to do a lot more work than I generally am, so I get to eat meals over there that I'll certainly not be preparing any time soon. In fact, I'd never had Chicken Scallopine before. Yum. She made chocolate cake for dessert, and Jenny got a gleam in her eye and suggested adding a bit of bourbon to the chocolate icing. Heh! Now THAT was a good idea. Livia sent the remainder of the cake home with me, so I'll have to eat nothing but salad for the next few days to balance out the cake calories. Mighty yummy cake, though. It'll be worth it.

I took over my new (used) book of Italian Ren calligraphy and we oohed and aaahed over it for a long time. It'll be wonderful for documentation. Heh. I still need to decide what to teach at Heralds and Scribes; I know I'm teaching shading but want to do another class as well. Color theory is very helpful for any artist, but I'm not sure about whether it'd be a good hour's worth.

I have class tonight; first after Spring Break. Sigh. Gotta go get my stuff together. Of course, I'm been trying to get my shit together for decades, now....
