Catching up in lots of ways...

First, the phone. I stopped in at Cingular Fri afternoon and talked to the nice man there. And he WAS nice, which was quite pleasant. I've been going to the Cary location and this time I went to a slightly less upscale one. There were actually real people working there instead of Stepford-people whose only interest is in getting me rushed back out the door ASAP. Anyway, he opened my phone and found that it had gotten wet-- red tell-tale spot thingy-- cool! Except how the hell did it get wet? I have no idea how or when. Weird. Also, he said to turn it off and on at least once every 24 hours so it contacts home base and gets re-something-or-othered. Sounded like that might help the "call failed" thing. Also, he mentioned that charging in the car is Not A Good Idea. He even commented that "They'll tell you it's okay and then later turn around and say it isn't." Not only is it a shallow, quick charge that doesn't last, it apparently is not good for the battery. I must have done a car-charge last time when it ran down so quickly, because I just charged it over Thurs night from a wall socket and it's still showing a full charge three days later. It also hasn't dropped me since I talked to him. Cool.

Next, the car. I still have to get it inspected, but I got new wipers and took them over to [livejournal.com profile] zihuatenejo's house on Sat, and Wistric installed them for me. I'm sure glad he knew what he was doing, because the "instructions" on the damn packages sure didn't tell me anything useful. I'd still be there, fiddling with the damn things, if it weren't for him.

BTW-- I am hereby agitating for zihuatenejo to set up separate journals so they'll have different names. Otherwise, I'll be tempted to call Wistric "Zihua?" and Sunniva "Tenejo!" To be pronounced "Zee WHA?? and "Ten AY ho!" The punctuation goes with the names, BTW; it's not for the sentence. Therefore, the next paragraphs would read:

After class on Sat, I stopped by and picked up Tenejo! and we went to UNC's campus. She showed me where class will be, where the SLIS library is (ie, where the reserve readings are) and where to go for free printing. Whee! En route, she pointed out where the crazy guy revved his car into the crowd last spring. When we got back to Little K'berg, we picked up Zihua? and [livejournal.com profile] harleenquinzell, and formed a caravan with [livejournal.com profile] lady_guenievre and [livejournal.com profile] soucyn to toddle on over to Their Excellencies' house for a baby shower. (Heh. Toddle, baby shower, heh .... oh, well. I didn't mean to do it.) We (okay, *I*) gorged myself on the potluck goodies. An embarrassment of deserts, and several of them were fiiiine, too. When we had all ODed on babies (There will definitely be no shortage of native peoples available to play in 18 years, I can tell you. I *think* there were 7 kids there under the age of 3,) we packed ourselves back up and went back to Little K'berg where Zihua? made a couple of pitchers full of Margaritas. We have joked about making Zihua? the official bartender of Casa Bellini, and we can now attest that he will be entirely suitable for the job. This is also when Zihua? fixed my wipers, and I would like to reiterate how much I appreciate it.

Now see? I didn't have to say "the lovely half of zihuatenejo" or "the handsome half of zihuatenejo" or any such thing. Think about it.

Anyway, the margaritas were lovely, and the best news is that they did NOT give me a migraine. I know tequila hadn't bothered me in the past, but it's been awhile since I tried it, so I wasn't sure how that would go. Yay, margaritas.

Tenejo! and Harleenquinzell came over this afternoon for scribal time. Can I call that "QT with the 'prent's? Heh. Poor harleenquinzell had her first taste of drafting, and I don't think she liked it as well as chocolate. I remain convinced, however, that after she works with it a bit more and sees how much it can simplify her life, it'll start to show a better result/pain ratio. It's another one of those things like learning to write-- or learning calligraphy-- that isn't immediately easy but can be quite worthwhile nonetheless.

After scribing, I showed them two stores in town that have art/drafting supplies to droooool over. And of course, that put us only a couple of blocks from Krispy Kreme, where, despite the lack of a "Hot NOW!" sign, we got to watch Tenejo!'s doughnuts get glazed. (Heh. Not quite as much fun as it sounds, but hey. Zihua? would have been most upset if it HAD been as much fun as it sounds and he wasn't there.)

Oh, yeah. I got off track there for a bit.... I need to take the car back to the tire place tomorrow, because it isn't aligned right. The steering wheel vibrates like mad at highway speeds, which is damned exhausting, and in addition to that, it pulls to the left. I hope they fix it right the first time (okay, I guess that'd be the second time) and that I don't have to keep taking it back and arguing with them. I am moderately grumpy anyway because the woman who sold me the tires kept emphasizing what a "good ride" they would provide, and believe me when I say, they don't. Not yet, anyway. Right now it feels more like a tank in that I feel the road a lot more. Steve told me that I had my old tires underinflated, and that's probably part of it, but damn. I sure don't look forward to going to Kentucky next weekend on tires that feel like that. Yikes. Painkillers, here I come.

All My Cats (in-house soap opera) are getting along famously right now. Yay! Miss Molly was.... er.... grooming Carmen's butt yesterday, and no fighting ensued. I've also noticed that lots of times they sleep within a few inches of each other. Of course, when Miranda gets to feeling all full of herself (ie, after I pet her) she has to attack Molly, but other than that it's pretty much a peachy keen love fest. What a relief.

Well, Miranda just plopped herself in my lap. Not exactly my LAP per se, but high enough up that I have to hold her with my arm. Go figure. So of course, after a couple of minutes it's time for her to go attack Molly.

Time for me to go, too. I already have a ton of reading to do for classes. Sigh.
