what a day

Oh, I'm back at my parent's house, all right. TV blaring, everybody yelling over the TV, temperature set at about 78-80 degrees, etc, etc. And today my brother and his honey were here-- call 'em the Daniels; they're both named that. My brother is kinda hyper and can't sit still, so add that sort of zippy zippy all day to the racket. I was going to run out to the grocery for two things, but Mother figured it out and decided to come with, except she wanted to wait till her head got better, as I started getting a migraine (who could have guessed??) When she feels so proud of me that she can't stand it, she "pats" me on the back, except it's more of a whack-- for a tiny little bird like woman, she packs a hell of a wallop. And of course, she "pats" me on my shoulder-- the one that feels bruised from the tension and the migraine. It just got better and better. I was feeling pretty grumpy by that time, as you might suspect. I also desperately needed to stop in at Wally World and get some kind of lounging shorts or something to wear so I wouldn't melt into a puddle. Except I managed, somehow, to forget that it's less than a week till Christmas, so Wally World was packed to the gills. Eek. The saleslady gravely informed Mother that shorts are for summer, so they didn't have anything like that (while I was looking at tiny satin running shorts with cutesy little things embroidered all over them for about twice what I wanted to pay. Gah.) I wound up buying a pair of sweat pants for $5, and I'm gonna cut the legs off. Damned if I'll melt in Kentucky in December just because they don't sell shorts in winter. Ha.

So we finally make it to Kroger. Park, walk in the door and I hear "Susan!" and I look around, thought I'm certain that whoever it is wants someone else, not me. Except when I see the face, even though I don't consciously recognize the man, I know instantly who it is. Behold! A face from my teenage years! Eek. We were.... are you ready for this? I seriously doubt it..... in a Baptist singing group, (quintet) and we sang in several counties around when I was in high school. I liked singing, and the others were fun to run around with, and that was my main motivation. Heee! The guy in question (we'll call him B), I learned to my chagrin several years later, dearly loved to gossip. When he saw me and some friends out dancing at a gay bar, (I was in my late 20's and married by then) I swear he must have called his mama from the bar to tell her the news. She, of course, couldn't wait to tell my super-conservative Aunt Thelma, who worked for her, the salacious gossip. I'm not sure anybody wondered how HE knew I was in a gay bar. And there, in a nutshell, is the reason I hate living in small towns. So it was with mixed feelings that I greeted this fine specimen. We exchanged email addies--as I told the Daniels, "It's the modern equivalent of the air-kiss." Oh, and when I told the Daniels about it, I found out that the band B was in actually showed up on VH-1's one-hit-wonder show for "I wanna kiss you all over." I knew I heard it all the time when it was on the radio, but I thought it was a local thing; never dreamed they were at a national level, even as one-hit-wonders.

After I got home from all the excitement, I made a Peanut Butter Pie. I found the recipe at home before I left, and know Daddy LOVES him some peanut butter. When I mentioned it, I found out that the Daniels do, too. I had never made it and was quite surprised-- I expected something pudding-y, I think, but it was more like chess pie. Most excellent. I'm definitely keeping that recipe.

At about 9 PM I got a call from my daughter, who I was supposed to pick up at the airport at 11. Uh, not so much. Seems like the local airport is closed, for reasons we still have not determined, and she's stuck in Atlanta for the night. Which means that after all the jockeying to get her and the Daniels here at the same time (they haven't actually SEEN each other in something like 10 years) they might get to have lunch together before the Daniels have to get back home. Sigh.

After all the excitement, I'm still pretty cranked up. Oh, and the fully-caffeinated coffee this AM probably didn't help, either. Oops. Still with the migraine, though it's moderated to a minor nagging thing. So I'll take some more meds, read a book, and try to get some sleep sometime tonight.

I looked up the Lexington Airport website, and learned that it is *not* closed. In fact, there's even a Delta flight from La Guardia scheduled to land about half an hour after mine was scheduled. So I'm baffled. I'm going to see if I can find out any more, because it seems like they might just be lying so they don't have to pay for our hotels and food.

Humorously, Hope flew into Atlanta (from Seattle) this morning. She arrived a couple of hours before me. Her family lives in the area, so she's here for a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, by the time I called her, she was too far from the airport for us to get together. That would have been fun! (But would have made me too tired tomorrow to function, probably.)

On the up side, the hotel does have internet. :)
