Whee! I took the GRE today and I'm happy with my scores. The verbal part threw me some curves... what the hell does "bootless" mean? It had nothing to do with being shod or not, as far as I could tell. It was so weird it makes me wonder if I had one of those brain farts and it actually said something completely different, but I swear I looked at it for a LONG time and read and re-read it. The math was about what I expected. That score was a bit improved from the practice tests I'd taken, so that's to the good.
I had the chance to take an extra session of the test-- at no risk to my scores, only to help the ETS people try out some new ideas. I actually started to do it, thinking it would only be a short test... but no, it was going to be another 45 minutes, and I realized I was much too tired to care by then.
Tonight was a dinner to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the local Ten Thousand Villages store. I'm always a little uncomfortable at things when I don't know anyone else much, and tonight was kinda like that. I sort of picked a table that had an empty seat and asked to join them. To my delight, there was a fellow there (Al) who dived right in and started kidding around with me. We had a big old time, we did. Al treated me like quite the celebrity when he found out I designed the invitations and drew the artwork that was on the cards in the center of each table. During the program, they brought the planning committee up and gave us roses. I was considered to be on the planning committee because I did the invitations, I guess. The roses are beautiful-- some are deep coral and some are yellow shading into coral. My favorites! There is some baby's breath mixed in, too... the cats will love that. I've never met a cat yet who didn't like to eat baby's breath flowers.
I obviously used up my daily quotient of writing skills today on the exam, so I'm outta here. Toodles.
