I am terribly confused. When I tried to get on LJ this AM it said I was using the wrong password. I tried everything I could think of, to no effect. I finally changed it. Just now, when I tried to log back in, it wouldn't let me use the newer password, but instead took the older one that I changed from. Just what I need.

And I got a note from the teacher at UNC saying that I should be able to sign up for my campus account to get my classwork on BlackBoard. Whee! Except it said I needed a "PID" to set up an account. Ooooookay. I pulled out the letter I got from UNC saying I was accepted as an InterInstitutional Registration. Nothing on there about a "PID." I wrote to the ITS ppl, asking for help setting up the account. Fine, they said. Send us your PID. Finally I took a flyer and put in the "SID" number from the registration letter into the "PID" box. Success. Am I the only one here who does not automatically assume that a "PID" is the same as an "SID?"

Massive sigh.

That's weird... I've never heard of a "SID." Meh.

As for the email, have you worked that out with the SID/PID thing? I'm honestly not sure why you can't reply to the message. I'd call them and explain.

The SID allowed me to set up the account, so it's all moot. Just very weird.

I'm guessing "SID" is "student ID", but I can't figure out what the "P" would stand for in "PID".

I'm guessing Personal ID. And seeing "PID" and "SID" side by side, it seems obvious, but when SID is in the middle of the second of three or four lines of letters followed by numbers, and what you're looking for is PID, it just didn't seem like a given.

This is a case of different departments not talking to each other. I was there when your PID was changed from your SSN because of security issues. Admissions always used used another number, then turned that number over to the registrar when you became a student. They changed their number format to match the new PID standard, and for students, your SID becomes your PID. If you are not a student, your PID comes from HR.
