I blame it all on low blood sugar
Sep. 12th, 2006 11:48 amI had the bloodwork done for a routine physical this morning. It was, of course, of the "fasting" variety, which meant no food between midnight last night and the test this morning at 10 AM. Except of course, 10 oozed into 10:15 or so, and by then I was counting every second due to a headache and some queasiness. It all went very quickly once I got in, and they did a bone density scan while I was there. Cool.
Between the doctor's office and home was a Denny's. I knew when I saw it on my way to the doctor's that I was in trouble, and sure enough, the car turned into the parking lot instead of going on past. Imagine that. I normally avoid Denny's for two reasons: What I get when I go there is breakfast, and it's not the healthiest breakfast in the world; besides that, they have had a bad record with little things like refusing to serve blacks. Oops. I will say that today the place was well integrated in re both servers and customers, and everyone was being equally well served. (Okay, I admit I had no way of knowing that before I went in. I did say, "I blame it all on the low blood sugar.") And of course, in for a penny, in for a pound. I'm a sucker for their Grand Slam. There went the low blood sugar! While I was inhaling food at a pretty good clip there for a while, I had some restraint and didn't eat everything on my plate-- I ate a few bites more after I was full, but still left about half the pancakes. And coffee-- I think I sucked down about 4 cups of coffee in a half hour or less. Damn. I'm going to be twitchy for the rest of the day, and then some.
I have tons of reading for classes, of course, and lord knows I won't be getting sleepy any time soon. The other thing I need to do is work on is my workspace. I need a new office chair and table/desk.
I was having a hell of a time figuring out what I needed, till I activated my long neglected Architect Skills Set, and combined that with the newly-activated Logic Center. I finally managed to articulate a list of requirements, and even drew up a floor plan showing the existing furniture that I need to keep. Voila! With all those things nailed down instead of being a vague bunch of "well, I might be able to squeeze that in..." theories, I was able to find something I like, that will actually fit. Yay, me! And it doesn't require getting rid of anything besides my current computer table, which would be pretty damn difficult without more soul-searching than I'm willing to tackle at this point. (Me, not so much with the soul-searching thing, in case you hadn't noticed. Or at least, not if it requires getting rid of anything.)
bzzzyb is going to take me out to Staples to pick up the chair, and the table can be ordered online if they don't have it in the store, so now we have a plan, too.
So. Anyone want a computer table? It's from Ecko, so it's very modern and chic. Let me know if you're interested and I'll give you dimensions, etc. There is also an office chair, but the padding in the seat is pretty flattened out by now. Otherwise, not too bad.
